Study of Student and Faculty Habits (INAP) Reports: Ancilla

Highlights of the findings of the PALNI Study of Student and Faculty Habits (Information Needs Assessment Project)

Ancilla

On October 24, 2023, the Information Needs Assessment team visited Marian University’s Ancilla College and conducted two of the methods (interviews and photo collage) in our toolkit. A total of 14 students participated in the study. You can view the report from that visit here:

Noteworthy Findings

  • Students use on-campus spaces heavily. Very few students mentioned off-campus study spaces.
  • Many students discussed group study spaces. However, some levels of inequity were noticed with these spaces. Students mentioned that there is a group study room in the female dorm and not in the male dorm, and thus males have no 24 hour study space available to them on campus. Additionally, the baseball team has their own special room that was unused by other students.
  • Athletics appears to have a good working relationship with the library.
  • Students appreciated the beauty of the flower gardens and natural landscapes around campus.
  • Students wanted to study in places where they felt some ownership. Baseball players studied in their coach’s space, peer tutors studied in the library, athletes felt most comfortable on the field, and all students studied in their personalized dorm room spaces.
