What are PALNI Libraries Doing?

Andersson selected academic buildings

Anderson University Academic Buildings

Welcome to Anderson University! The school's campus has served as a place of education and growth for a century. Things have changed over the years: buildings have come and gone, been combined, renamed, and remodeled, and occasionally repurposed altogether. From essentially a single building - Old Main - the university has grown into a thriving and active community. Here, you can see for yourself how this transformation took place.

One Hundred Years at the Anderson University Campus features a timeline of current and former campus buildings and displays, where each building is organized by type (academic, student housing, libraries, etc.) and has its own feature page.

Summer student research involves game theory, stop motion animation, bystander training and more

Sixteen Goshen College students are participating in summer research projects through the college’s Maple Scholars Program.

Begun in 1998, Maple Scholars is an eight-week interdisciplinary program in which students collaborate with professors to study and complete hands-on research. Professors propose projects in early December and students apply to work on the projects. These students come from many academic disciplines, including art, physics, computer science, communication, women’s studies, English and more.

Anderson University periodicals examples

Anderson College and Church of God Periodials on Omeka

Since 1881, the Church of God has published a variety of periodicals dealing with children's ministry, missions, and the movement itself. Anderson University has also produced several alumni magazines, student-run newspapers, and other periodicals which are stored in the Anderson University and Church of God Archives.

Since 1929, there has been an alumni newsletter in one form or another. These publications have been continuous since 1938. The Broadcaster is the earliest such newsletter, followed by Alumni News and Anderson College News. Signatures is the current form of Anderson University's alumni magazine.

Digital Humanities sample SMC project

Digital Humanities/Digital Scholarship at Saint Mary's College: The Displacement Project

Our project was inspired by the Consortium of Independent Colleges (CIC) “Humanities Research for the Public Good” grant, which has the following goal: “By making visible the significant collections contained in college archives, libraries, and museums, the project aims to show how these raw materials of humanities research can address the concerns and experiences of local communities." We responded by engaging three local communities with one another—Saint Mary’s College students/faculty, South Bend/Michiana residents, and the Congregation of the Sisters the Holy Cross.

Quilts from Goshen College selection

Goshen College quilts from College Mennonite Church collection

These are not “your grandmother’s quilts”—although they belong in the long tradition of quilting culture at College Mennonite Church (CMC), founded in 1903.

The first record of “The Sewing Circle” dates from 1909, although the sisters in the church must have been quilting before then. By 1925 the group had formed committees, one named the “Quilt and Comforter” committee, which made quilts for missionaries and missions, as well as bedding for Goshen College dormitories. During World War 2 quilts went to foreign relief efforts, which continued postwar with the Mennonite Central Committee. Since 1968, CMC’s Mennonite Women group also make quilts that they donate to the Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale.
